Pate's Battalion); that Battalion became 5th Va. Cavalry June 1862 and his company was Co. I; in hospital Dec. 1862- Jan. 1863; May- June 1863; and Nov. 1863- Jan. 1864; later made Sergeant Major; Mortally wounded in action Sept. 25, 1864 near Luray Va. Died- Sept. 26, 1864 from wounds received previous day.
